The Most Populous Cities in the World
With an estimated worldwide population of 7.125 billion, the question on everyone's lips is where exactly do all those people fit in? The only answer to that of course, is wherever possible! Thus our world is full of diversity; with so many cultures, languages, climates and types of terrain, there is so much to explore and experience, and travel is the solution. Here is a list of the biggest cities.
Tokyo
Tokyo is the world's most populous city; with approximately 37.8 million people living there, it is no wonder that the capital city of Japan has so many things to see and do, from the temples and shrines and the leading technology that is present throughout the central district to the pretty green gardens and wide range of entertainment options. Japan also has its very own pop culture, known worldwide as 'j-pop'. The primary language spoken in Tokyo is Japanese.
Delhi
As the capital city and most populated metropolis of India, it comes as no surprise that the number of people reaches to 16.3 million. In terms of culture, Delhi is a fusion of old monuments, innovative architecture and busy city life. Hindi is the language spoken in Delhi, as it is throughout the rest of the country.
Shanghai
Shanghai is a marvel to behold; as the biggest city in China, past and present influences are clear in every corner of the city, from the advanced skyline of Pudong which includes the Shanghai Tower, to the Yuyuan Garden and the renowned Bund waterfront, both which ooze traditionalism. The population is also a good indicator of the city's growth; reaching a colossal 24.5 million people, even the language spoken in Shanghai (Shanghainese) is a different version to the typical Mandarin known to the rest of China.
New York
New York, New York. As the most famous and perhaps iconic city in the USA, having featured in many songs and films over the years and home to the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and Times Square, with 5 boroughs, you can expect that the population will be as high as almost 8.5 million. The primary language spoken is English, but with every major city, you can expect that there are many more being spoken.
Seoul
In the centre of the Korean peninsula is the city of Seoul; surrounded by mountains, it is rapidly becoming a popular tourist destination. With over 10 million inhabitants, one of its distinctive features is the Han River that runs through the centre, thus dividing the city into 'north of the river' and 'south of the river'.
Mumbai
Famous for Elephanta Islands, the Gateway of India and the Bollywood film industry as well as delicious cuisine, Mumbai in India is so culturally diverse and boasts some interesting topography. In minutes you will be transported by a nippy little tuk-tuk car from the busy city life to the relaxing beaches or stunning harbour. The population is 18.5 million people and the languages spoken are English and Hindi.
Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
