A Handmade Palace of Pebbles
When French postman Ferdinand Cheval waled his route, he would collect pebbles and put them in his wheelbarrow, taking them home with him.
It all began when Ferdinand tripped over a strangely-shaped rock. In 1879, Ferdinand's hobby became a real project – once he was done with his work, he would work on constructing his pebble palace through the night.
33 years later, Ferdinand finally completed his palace, now known as Le Palais ideal.
Secret building that could be a house from Middle Earth in The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings
A building in a secret location that could be a house straight from the set of a Lord of the Rings movie. The building is in England. It was built over a period of several years starting in the 1980's. It was initally started as a shed for the farmer to store hay and other supplies but over time he continued adding to it as the farmer was also an artist.
In total it took 11 years until the farmer stopped building it. It was never finished because the farmer sold up, due to a quarry opening up nearby and he did not want to live with the noise of big lorries all day long.
