Bizarre Ocean Creatures Hatchet Fish Orange

Source: Flip Side

Given the extreme depths to which scientists must go to find these frightful-and tiny-fish, little is known about the hatchetfish. A prime source of worldwide model envy, the morose-looking creatures derive their name from how razor-thin they are, no extreme dieting required.
Anatomically speaking, the hatchetfish's silver-colored thorax resembles a hatchet's blade. Its name is somewhat deceiving, though; measuring a mere one to five inches in length, the hatchetfish is hardly imposing, let alone deadly. It's just, well, pretty terrifying to look at.
The marine hatchetfish is endowed with bioluminescent properties, which allow it to evade predators lurking in the depths below. If you absolutely must see one for yourself, you'll need to slip on your scuba gear and head to the Pacific, Indian or Atlantic Oceans and swim at least 50 meters below the oceans' surface, as that's where the hatchetfish calls home.

The Blobfish

Source: No Cooki

More gelatinous than your grandma's pudding, the blobfish's strikingly jiggly appearance has captivated the attention of millions over the past several years. So unmistakable is the finned jello mold that it was deemed the world's ugliest animal in 2013. Why such a flabby appearance? As the blowfish calls the high water-pressured bottom of the ocean home, its skin has become about as dense as water over time.
You might think that the blobfish's lack of muscle tissue would prove disadvantageous, but you'd be wrong. Imagine a world in which all you had to do to enjoy a fantastic meal was open your mouth and let gravity do its trick. For the blobfish, such a sweet dream is a daily reality. When it comes time to feast, the blobfish's lack of density means that it doesn't have to expend any energy in order to eat. Instead, it simply opens its mouth and floats about, noshing on any sea critters that enter its path. Nice life.

The Fangtooth

Source: Hero Machine

Consider the fangtooth fish the underwater equivalent of a supposedly menacing pitbull with a heart of gold. Despite its threatening appearance, the fangtooth is incredibly benign-especially as its poor eyesight means that if the fangtooth wants to make like a predator and hunt, it quite literally has to bump into its prey in order to find it.
The fangtooth's chompers certainly paint a different portrait, though. An orthodontist's worst nightmare, the fangtooth has the largest teeth of any fish in the ocean relative to its actual size. Good luck catching a glimpse of the sharp-mouthed animal with your own eyes: the fangtooth resides as far as 16,400 feet beneath the sea. For comparison's sake, that's about the length of 55 consecutive American football fields.

The Sea Cucumber

Source: National Geographic

The continued existence of these icky echinoderms is somewhat mind boggling. Lacking a true brain and any semblance of sensory organs, the sea cucumber is endowed with the same mental capacity as the food for which it is named. Nevertheless, the colorful cuke constitutes a vital part of the oceanic ecosystem, as it breaks down detritus and recycles any and all nutrients that come its way.
Unlike the cucumbers we like to put over our eyes and into our salads, the sea cucumber is incredibly flexible due to its collagen levels. For instance, if the sea cucumber needs to wedge itself into a tiny crevice, its collagen will loosen and the sea cucumber will effectively liquify itself to seep into its desired locale. When situations get truly dire, sea cucumbers can also engage in self mutilation by violently contracting their muscles and expelling some of their internal organs out through their anus to ward off predators. Don't try this at home the next time you have an unwanted guest, though; unlike sea cucumbers, your internal organs won't grow back.

The Goblin Shark

Source: Imgur

Deemed by some scientists as a "living fossil" and tragically overshadowed in pop culture by its flashier shark counterparts, the goblin shark leads a relatively mysterious existence deep below the ocean blue. The only extant survivor of a 125 million-year old family of sharks, the goblin is truly unique.and ugly. But apart from its most salient features (re: its long, flattened snout, protruding jaws and claw-like teeth), the goblin is relatively unremarkable.
Most scientists speculate that in the underwater world, the goblin shark plays the role of elderly next-door neighbor. Why? Just like your elderly neighbor, the goblin shark's general flabbiness conveys the fact that it's not exactly moving around that much, and further, that it doesn't even need to in order to survive. Unlike your elderly next-door neighbor, it's highly unlikely that you'll ever see a goblin shark in your lifetime. While they were discovered in the 19th century, goblin sharks are incredibly rare and prefer to confine themselves to the ocean's lower depths-not the public eye. In fact, when one was brought to an aquarium in Japan a few years ago, it died soon after.

Flamingo Tongue Snail

Source: Richard Seaman

Shell collectors of the world, be warned. Though the saturated snail you see above bears a visually striking "shell", the vibrant patterns aren't part of the shell itself but rather the mollusk's living mantle tissue.
Located in the waters of the Atlantic and Caribbean, the flamingo tongue snail feeds on toxic sea fans and yet, much like Bruce Willis in "Unbreakable", suffers no harm. In fact, the snail only benefits from doing so. While chewing on sea fans, the cunning snail absorbs their venom and-to the chagrin of its potential predators-becomes toxic itself. While the flamingo tongue snail used to be a relatively common sight, its unique exterior has rendered it a popular underwater "souvenir" for scuba divers, which has contributed even more to its novelty status.

The Angler Fish

Source: CG Arena

The angler fish is perhaps one of the most fascinating and bizarre sea creatures known to man. Not only known for its wily predation techniques (re: possessing a spine that grows its own glowing fleshy mass, which the fish wiggles about to lure in other predatory sea creatures that it will ultimately devour), the angler fish's mating habits are rather unique.
When scientists first discovered the angler, for instance, they noticed that almost all of those observed were female.and that these specimens had what appeared to be some sort of parasitic growth attached to their lower parts.
Turns out that those "parasites" were actually just greatly reduced male angler fish, whose puny size means that the male angler fish's sole objective in life is to find and mate with a female. Once they do find a female partner, male anglers quickly bite into the female's skin and thus fuse them together-so much so that all that is discernible of the male angler fish are two globular growths on the female's skin: its gonads. From this point on, the male's life literally depends on its female host, as they share a circulatory system. And, well, just about everything else. When the female is ready to mate, the male pays his dues by providing her with sperm on the spot so that she might impregnate herself.

[nidokidos] Things about Postal Department

India has various world records in its name, some of them make us proud and some not so much. This one will not only shock you but will also make you feel proud. We thought it deserved to be written about before it goes obsolete and here it is.

Things about Postal Department

It's been operational for 150 years and with around 155618 post offices and over 566000 employees we can be proud in saying that India has the largest postal network in the world.

In the age of Emails, Mobile Phones, Internet and other ways of communications, India still is making full use of its postal services and it's quite an achievement. There is hardly any village, town or city that doesn't have a functional post office in our country and it's definitely remarkable. The most important thing is that its reach is vast and even our new age equipment and services are not able to match that reach.

Other than sending letters, Post-Cards, Registered Mail, and Speed post they offer some services which many Indians use for mostly saving their taxes and thanks to those services the 566000 are still getting their salaries.

Here are some more facts that will surprise you.

In 1854, the post office in the province of Sindh (then in British India) made postal history when India became the first country to issue postage stamps after The Great Britain.

In 1911, India achieved another 'first' when a biplane from Allahabad to Naini flew with 6500 pieces of mail. The world's first official airmail flight took place in India, on February 18th of mentioned year. It was a journey that spanned 18 kilometres and lasted 27 minutes. Henri Pequet, a French pilot, ferried around 15 kilos of mail. A special postmark, First Aerial Post, was created for the event.

Very recently they closed their telegram department and you never know till when will they continue the other services. But until then lets be proud of it and share these amazing facts with as many as we can.

Gramin Dak Sevak - A Documentary on lives of Rural Postal Employees

Gramin Dak Sevak, my first documentary is Jeevika All Asia Livelihood film festival, 2009 student film winner. Gramin Dak Sevaks , earlier known as the extra department employees are a part of the Indian Postal System. These people have been ignored by the department and are deprived of most of the benefits their counterparts, the regular employees get. The film shows the difficulties and life of these people. The film is an effort to take out the voice of these people to the masses.

[nidokidos] Brave in Life , Brave in Death

The Logical Indian ( A great unsung heroine from India)

On September 6,1986 five terrorists hijacked the US bound Pan Am Flight-73 flight at Karachi airport, and took control of the aircraft. One of the worst hijacks in aviation history it claimed 20 lives; this was the largest toll in a hijack until 9/11. The remaining 375 passengers and crew members would not have survived, if the air-hostess Neerja Bhanot, was not there.
Neerja Bhanot identified herself as one of the air hostess, who was held at gunpoint and announced that the place had been hijacked. Unfortunately, the three-member cockpit crew of pilot, co-pilot and the flight engineer abandoned the aircraft, leaving 400 passengers and a 13-member cabin crew in the hands of brutal, thoughtless terrorists. Since Neerja was the cabin crew leader, she took over command. Neerja requested the passengers to be calm and obey the hijackers. She served coffee and sandwiches and her charming smile eased the tide of fear that had swept across their faces.
The leaders of the hijack identified himself as Mustaga. He ordered Neerja to collect the passports of all the passengers. Later she realized that the Americans were the main target of the terrorists and in a brilliant move she discreetly collected all the American passports and hid them. There couldn't have been a better way to confuse the terrorists. By 9.pm when the auxiliary power unit failed entirely and the aircraft was plunged into darkness. Fearing an imminent raid by commandos, the hijackers shouted now is the holy war!! They fired their AK47, till they exhausted the bullets. By then Neerja had opened an emergency exit and a pan Am mechanic opened another. She used all her strength to guide and push people down the chute and while shielding three children; she absorbed the onslaught of bullets into her own body.
She would have escaped by the emergency exit first, but the angelic women gave up her life to save the innocents like a mother. After spent the bullets, and try to escape, the Mustafa and others captured by commandos and sentenced to life by a US court. Neerja was brave in life, brave in death. The only stewardess, to have commanded an aircraft and held the hijackers at bay, was an Indian.
Neerja Bhanot was born on September 7, 1963, in Chandigarh. Neerja made a wonderful model as well as an air hostess. For her brave act India awarded her the Ashoka Chakra (she became the youngest recipient of India's highest civilian award for bravery). She was also awarded the "Tagme-e-Insaniyat" (Pakistan), the flight Safety Foundation Award and the Medal of Heroism of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (U.S.A.).Neerja died at the age of 22 just 2 days shy of her 23rd birthday

Neerja Bhanot

Neerja Bhanot AC was a flight attendant for Pan Am, based in Mumbai, India, who was murdered while saving passengers from terrorists on board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986.

[nidokidos] 10 steps to a trim tum

10 steps to a trim tum

This classic flowing sequence of postures is at the heart of modern yoga and can be a complete practice in itself or a preparation for a longer routine.

Traditionally performed in the morning to greet the new day, it forms the backbone of most types of yoga and employs various forward and backward bending poses that flex the spinal column, giving a profound, energising stretch to the whole body.

Because it is an energetic sequence that tones every muscle group in the body, it's great for burning calories, building strength and stamina, improving circulation and detoxifying your internal organs through enhanced oxygenation.

It has a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating effect, too.

In other words, this is a full body workout like no other, which explains its popularity.

I would recommend doing this sequence at least five times a day if weight is an issue. But even if you only do two sequences a day, you're doing your figure a massive favor.

There are small variations in the way yogis do this sequence, but the most important thing is the synchronisation of the motion of your breath with the movement of your body. Basically, all upward movements are coupled with inhalation, and downward movements with exhalation.

1. MOUNTAIN POSE

Start in Mountain pose: stand up tall, feet together or a little apart, arms at your sides. Place your palms together in a prayer position, roll your shoulders back and down and lift your chest.

2. INHALE

Inhale through your nose and extend your arms above and behind your head.

3. SWAN DIVE

Swan dive into a standing forward bend, exhaling through your nose and placing your hands on your legs as close to your feet as you can. Bend your knees a little if your hamstrings are tight, to protect your back.

4. HALF STANDING FORWARD BEND

Inhale and lengthen your spine forward into a Half Standing Forward Bend, with your fingertips on the floor and gaze focused ahead.

5. PLANK POSE

Exhale and step, or lightly hop, your feet behind you to get into a Plank pose, arms straight underneath your shoulders and legs straight behind you. Your back should be flat and your core engaged. Hold for a second, then, in a snake-like movement, lower yourself towards the floor. Then lower your chest and chin to the floor, keeping your elbows close to the sides of your ribcage, and flatten your feet to the floor.

6. COBRA POSE

Inhale as you push down with your arms and raise your head, shoulders and upper body as far as you can without straining. This is the Cobra pose. Look upwards, roll shoulders back and down and keep elbows in. Firm up your kneecaps and thighs to prevent them lifting off the mat.

7. DOWNWARD FACING DOG

Exhale into Downward Facing Dog; walk hands forward and slightly farther apart than shoulder width, and spread fingers wide for stability. Then curl toes under and press your hips upwards so your body is in the shape of a triangle, with your bottom as the apex. Make sure your neck and shoulders are released and relaxed. If your hamstrings are tight, keep your knees slightly bent. Take five deep breaths.

8. FORWARD BEND

Inhale, step forward one foot and then the other between the hands, looking ahead. Then exhale into a forward bend.

9. INHALE

Inhale and come up, arms above and behind head.

10. STANDING POSE

Lower arms into original standing pose.

HOW TO EAT LIKE A YOGA EXPERT

Eat nothing — or only a light, healthy snack — in the two to three hours before a yoga class. 'You should arrive on an empty stomach,' says Alessandra Pecorella, a yoga teacher at The Life Centre in Islington, London. 'Otherwise you'll feel heavy and your body will be busy digesting your food, so it will be less able to support you during the poses.

This also helps to build discipline and will get you into the habit of eating when you're hungry and not when you're bored or emotional.

Eating in moderation is an important part of yoga practice, according to Alessandra. 'Yoga texts recommend eating until the stomach is three-quarters full,' she says. 'Always leave a space to aid digestion.'
Eat the same foods as yogis. 'The yogic, or Sattvic, diet is about eating fresh foods in season, when they are at their most nutritious,' says Alessandra. 'So it's lots of fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds.'
These foods are full of vitamins and nutrients important for brain and body health; they also provide fibre and release energy slowly, so you'll feel fuller for longer and be less tempted to overeat.
The yogic diet is based largely on vegetarian, alkaline foods, meaning acidic foods and drinks, such as coffee and sugary pop, are to be avoided. Fizzy drinks can also be high in calories. Instead, drink plenty of water, especially on the day of your class, to avoid cramps. If you're sensitive to caffeine, limit your intake, as this may affect your ability to relax and get into the calm state needed for optimum practice.
A yoga class will stimulate your digestive 'fire' or appetite, says Alessandra. After class, she recommends a high-protein, low-carbohydrate meal such as a warm salad with chickpeas and nuts, or lentil soup. This will satisfy the appetite and help repair muscle without losing that post-yoga lightness.

Keep your diet varied. 'Each food has its own unique vitamin and mineral profile, so don't just eat the same thing every day,' Alessandra says.
