There's definitely a way to push the fashion boundaries a bit and still have some style.

[nidokidos] The Art of Giving

The Art of Giving

"Rivers do not drink their own water, nor do tree eat their own fruit, nor do rain clouds eat the grains reared by them. The wealth of the noble is used solely for the benefit of others!
Even after accepting that giving is good and that one must learn to give, several questions need to be answered.

The first question is:
When should one give?

We all know the famous incident from Mahabharat.
Yudhisthir asks a beggar seeking alms to come the next day. On this, Bhim rejoices that Yudhisthir his brother, has conquered death! For he is sure that he will be around the next day to give. Yudhisthir gets the message.
One does not know really whether one will be there tomorrow to give!
The time to give, therefore, is now.

The next question is:
'How much to give?'

One recalls the famous incident from history.
Rana Pratap was reeling after defeat from the Moghals. He had lost his army, he had lost his wealth, and most important, he had lost hope, his will to fight. At that time, in his darkest hour, his erstwhile minister, Bhamasha, came seeking him and placed his entire fortune at the disposal of Rana Pratap. With this, Rana Pratap raised an army and lived to fight another day.
The answer to this question how much to give is:
"Give as much as one can!

The next question is:
'What to give?'

It is not only money that can be given away. It could be a flower or even a smile.

It is not how much one gives but how one gives that really matters. When you give a smile to a stranger that may be the only good thing received by him in days and weeks!

"You can give anything but you must give with all your heart!"

One also needs answer to this question
Whom to give?

Many times we avoid giving by finding fault with the person who is seeking. However, being judgmental and rejecting a person on the presumption that he may not be the most deserving, is not justified.

"Give without being judgmental!"

Next we have to answer:
'How to give?'

Coming to the manner of giving, one has to ensure that the receiver does not feel humiliated, nor the giver feels proud by giving.

In giving, follow the advice 'Let not your left hand know what your right hand gives? Charity without publicity and fanfare is the highest form of charity.'
'Give quietly!'
While giving, let not the recipient feel small or humiliated. After all, what we give never really belonged to us. We come to this world with nothing and will go with nothing. The thing gifted was only with us for a temporary period. Why then take pride in giving away something which really did not belong to us?
Give with grace and with a feeling of gratitude.

"What should one feel after giving?"

We all know the story of Eklavya. When Dronacharya asked him for his right thumb as "Guru Dakshina, he unhesitatingly cut off the thumb and gave it to Dronacharya.
There is a little known sequel to this story.
Eklavya was asked whether he ever regretted the act of giving away his thumb. He replied, and the reply has to be believed to be true, as it was asked to him when he was dying.

His reply was "Yes! I regretted this only once in my life. It was when Pandavas were coming in to kill Dronacharya who was broken hearted on the false news of death of his son, Ashwathama, and had stopped fighting. It was then that I regretted the loss of my thumb. If the thumb was there, no one could have dared hurt my Guru?

The message to us is clear.
Give and never regret giving!

And the last question is:
'How much should we provide for our heirs?'

Ask yourself 'are we taking away from them the gift of work? - A source of happiness?
The answer is given by Warren Buffett:
"Leave your kids enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing!"

I would conclude by saying:

Let us learn the Art of Giving,
and quoting the Saint Kabir:

"When the wealth in the house increases, when water fills a boat, throw them out (for good causes) with both hands!"
This is the wise thing to do!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Truth is always like oil in water.
No matter how much water you add to depress it,
it always floats on Top...

[nidokidos] No fear means emptiness

No fear means emptiness

As long as there is a created personality, there will be fear at different levels.

Fear of what?
Fear of death. Fear of losing a job, fear of losing a "loved one," fear to be dismissed by the religious group, fear to be left alone, fear of people, fear of saying what is in your heart, fear of the system, fear of the tradition, fear of God, fear of the Devil, fear of life, fear of darkness, fear of ourselves…

All of those fears have the common denominator of our idea of "losing something."
That something is part of the personality, the created ego which does not realize or does not want to see that everything changes and that nothing remains the same.
We believe that our thoughts, our ideas about something have to be the "same," by doing that we are blinding ourselves from the "reality" of change.

The runner who wakes up everyday early in the morning at 4:30 AM to run, no matter what; is viewed as an "example to follow." "Look, he is amazing. He wakes up everyday at 4:30 to run, that is why he looks so slim and fit. I should be like him or "you" should be like him."

We may not realize that anything which is done without "higher" consciousness tends to become a ritual, something more important than life itself, something which a person cannot live without; that is that "good ritual," becomes a source of dependency; a new "drug" to keep someone high .

The fact that someone wakes up everyday at 4:30 to run should not be any source of amazement. Is that person enjoying that run? Is that person conscious of what he is doing during the time that he is out there running? What are his ulterior motives to do that?

For some is to "get it over before life gets in between." For some " to beat John in the next race, "I" need to train harder and longer." For others, "to keep their weight down so they can enjoy eating." Yet for some, the enjoyment of telling people what they do early in the morning, so they feel better about themselves.

All of the above only creates fear in the person. The reality of aging will come by and with that a "forced" change which means suffering. That "achievement" means nothing without enjoyment and gratefulness. At that point we become a "has been."

If we are not realizing our own obsessive compulsive behaviors, we cannot enjoy life. All we are doing is feeding that illusory personality, giving that "ghost" life.

As we "work" (realize/understand) with all of our fears, then the possibility to discover emptiness appears; and with that emptiness of personality comes the wholesomeness of life.
Fear free.

[nidokidos] Peaceful co-existence

Peaceful co-existence

- (published in "The Hindu" dated 22.03.2012)
Often we find that we are unable to get on with our parents, or siblings, or spouses. The reason is no one is without the thought of self. No one is without an ego. So there is bound to be friction when people are thrown about in each other's company for a long time. But what then is the solution? Should one shun one's relatives, in the desire to avoid friction? How much importance should we give to our independence? The refusal to make even minor adjustments to accommodate one's own family has led to members of a family not even keeping in touch with each other. Siblings who grew up together, no longer tolerate each other, when they are adults. It is sad when they can hardly bear to be in the company of their extended family for long. But we must learn the art of peaceful co-existence, Suki Sivam stressed in a discourse.
Children of the present era use the word 'self- reliant' with abandon, thinking that human beings can be dispensed with and that life can go on merrily if one has enough money for creature comforts. But human beings are not dispensable. Nor can they be cast aside once their services are no longer needed. In fact one must realise that one cannot live in isolation, and that it is one's family that rallies round in times of need.
The need for co-operation and gregariousness has been demonstrated in the animal world. There was a time when there was an unusually cold winter, in a place where there was a colony of porcupines. To keep warm, the porcupines huddled together. Because of the bristles on their bodies, they were injuring each other, but they still kept close to each other for, if they moved away, they would die without the bodily warmth of the other porcupines. So although there was a lot of discomfort, the porcupines stayed close together and survived. Likewise, a family is not without its share of annoyances and irritations and even quarrels. But if we cite this as a reason for moving away from our kith and kin, then we will be left with no one to help us in times of need. We need each other for our very survival. So we must learn to co-exist peacefully with others, so that our life on this earth does not become difficult.

Always be Happy……..

[nidokidos] Your Bottled Water Has 24,500 Chemicals

Your Bottled Water Has 24,500 Chemicals
How it's screwing up your hormones
By Emily Main for RodaleNews.com

water bottles
Paying $2 for a bottle of water may be more convenient than lugging around your reusable one, but that seemingly small price may have a big impact on your health. German researchers found nearly 25,000 chemicals in a single bottle of water, some of which act like potent pharmaceuticals in your body, according to a study just published in the journal PLoS One.
The study's authors purchased 18 different samples of commercially sold bottled water from France, Italy, and Germany. Using various methods of chemical analysis, they tested the water for its ability to interfere with the body's estrogen and androgen (testosterone and other male reproductive hormone) receptors. The researchers threw in a sample of tap water to act as a sort of ringer, and the results were stunning. The majority of bottled waters tested interfered with both kinds of hormone receptors to some degree; amounts as little as 0.1 ounces inhibited estrogenic activity by 60% and androgenic activity by 90%. The latter, the researchers wrote, is equivalent to the hormonal activity of the drug flutamide, a drug commonly prescribed to men suffering from prostate cancer. The tap water didn't exhibit any estrogenic or androgenic activity.
For the second part of the study, the scientists investigated which chemicals were causing the reproductive hormonal interferences. They used another form of chemical detection and discovered the water contained 24,520 different chemicals. The most hormonally active belonged to classes of chemicals called maleates and fumarates, which are used to manufacture the form of plastic resins used in water bottles. They can also appear as contaminants of other plastic chemicals.
The mere presence of these chemicals doesn't mean that bottled water is going to cause you major lifelong problems, but it is disturbing. Hormonally active chemicals, usually called endocrine disruptors, are known to interfere with the reproductive development of children, but more research is finding that they can also trigger heart disease, diabetes, and infertility, among other problems, in adults. It's concerning that they make it into bottled water, Bruce Blumberg, PhD, of the University of California–Irvine, told Britain's Royal Society of Chemicals. "It is a bit early to make any strong inferences about how detrimental these chemicals will be toward human health," he says, but adds, "It is certain that they are not beneficial."
Carry a refillable nontoxic glass or stainless steel bottle with you wherever you go, and you'll avoid all those problems—and save a fortune, to boot.
